Significant change for UK–US exporters: From Friday, 29 August 2025, the US ends its $800 de minimis exemption. All postal and express shipments must now undergo full customs clearance, regardless of value.

For UK exporters, this means:

  • US import duties apply to all shipments. UK origin goods face typical duty rates of 10%. It is important to check specific products.

  • Express shipments remain operational but require stricter compliance, including accurate HS codes, product descriptions, proof of value, and origin details.

  • Expect higher costs, more administration, and possible delays as systems adjust.

Express channels remain open, but preparation is essential to avoid clearance issues.
