From the 25th of February 2026, HGV drivers travelling to the UK without a visa will be required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before boarding their transport.
The requirement applies to drivers who:
Do not need a visa for short stays of up to six months, and
Do not already hold a UK immigration status.
Drivers who fail to obtain an ETA will not be permitted to travel to the UK. The application process is fully digital, with the ‘UK ETA’ app available for download on both the Google Play and Apple App Store.
The Home Office has produced a series of resources to support hauliers and operators, including a video guide, display materials, and a partner information pack already being used at several ports. These materials can be incorporated into company communications to ensure drivers are aware of the new requirement.
