AICES has reviewed this week's Budget 2025, and there are several important developments for the UK express sector.
AICES understands the UK Government’s decision to respond to global trends and end the duty de minimis for low value parcels by March 2029. We welcome the Government’s decision to prioritise minimising administrative costs and maintaining flows across the border of these significant low value imports for UK businesses and consumers.
It is also positive to see confirmation that the proposed eVED per-mile charge will not apply to vans and HGVs at this stage, a clear acknowledgment of the unique electrification pathway within our sector. At the same time, rising employment costs, future changes to business rates, and increased vehicle-related charges will continue to shape the operating environment for express delivery businesses already managing tight margins.
AICES will be engaging closely with officials across HMT, DfT, DBT and others to ensure the express industry’s needs are understood as these policies develop.
